WJ HEAD-TO-HEAD AUGUST

The August & September Web Jams competition pits Prank Monkey against One Step Away. Prank Monkey covers the musical spectrum. Formed in the Fall of 2008, Prank Monkey has truly put the hammer down as they rock all over the South Shore with their own edgy style music; playing everything from, Elvis and the Stones, to Greenday and Iron Maiden. One Step Away won the Boston Music Festival in 2008 and have appeared on dozens of TV and radio stations. With passionate professionalism and studio-precision sound, One Step Away performances have a mesmerizing appeal as they mind-meld with their audiences. This past summer has found them on big stages far from their East Cost home including Universal Studios Hollywood and Whiskey A Go-Go in Los Angeles.

WEB JAMS FIRST LISTEN

This month's FIRST LISTEN is "Airplane" by Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards. To celebrate the release of their albums No Big Plans and Simple In This Place, Mandeville and Richards embarked on a seventeen day walking tour across their home state of Massachusetts; Richards learned the ukulele specifically for this tour as its weight was preferable over that of a full size guitar. Welcome to the new Web Jams

WL Web Jams is back!

That's right folks, we're finally back in front of the mic and ready to bring you the very best in local music from around our fair state. Our Web Jams competition has changed up just a bit. We're running two bands head-to-head for a whole month this time! The winner will compete in our final head-to-head against the winners from other months in a monster Web Jams throw down in December.

We're also introducing our First Listen feature which you can see to the right. We want artists to be able to showcase their latest work, and we want you, our readers, to be able to sample all sorts of new music. So if you're a band interested in taking part in First Listen drop us an email with an mp3 of the song you'd like us to feature.

Also on tap we'll be featuring Max Bowen's fabulous Citywide Blackout blog. Max has been promoting music on the local music scene for some time now and we're excited to be partnering with him. He also anchors a radio show every Saturday from 6-8 p.m. featuring interviews with entertainers and local musicians from across Massachussets, so give it a listen and if he asks, tell him we sent you!

And finally we will be featuring a meet the artist spot where we will be highlighting bands from around Massachusetts and asking them some pithy questions. Meet the Artist - Highway Ghosts

Since forming in 2007, the Highway Ghosts have traveled a long path, but it’s one they’ve been eager to walk for many years. The band’s brand of Americana music has garnered the attention of fellow musicians, clubs and the media, most notably the Boston Globe, which gave them their album “After All This Time,” the title of “Top Local CDs of 2009.”
